Back

No posts last week because I was in Brussels for a week. When we came home, Smokey seemed unfamiliar with us. I think 8 days is the amount of time Smokey needs to adjust to a new situation because when we were gone 7 days he got used to us pretty quickly. This time it took a day or two. He meowed up nonstop and we couldn't tell what he wanted. Turned out he had an upset tummy. He's fine now but more vocal than usual.

Hallway loiterer

Smokey has been changing things up recently. Whereas in the past he would hide in the closet during severe thunderstorms, during the last two thunderstorms he yowls, yowls, to be let into the hall. I wonder why he thinks the hall is a good idea?

Also, it finally happened. He followed one of our neighbors out the door. I found him sitting at the bottom of the stairs outside the building, perhaps in the middle of deciding what to do next. He looked up at me when he heard me open the door. I sighed and figured I would go back inside for the leash, but when I came back he readily climbed the stairs back into the building. At least he knows he's not supposed to be outside by himself?

Scratching post

Smokey is such a big cat, we had to buy a larger model scratching post. It is not cheap, so I was hoping to get double the use. I took it apart to flip the post. Unfortunately, I need a power drill to finish the job. In the meantime, Smokey seems to be enjoying it in its current state.
